This limited Jamaican rum is part of the Planteray Single Cask Collection 2026. It is made from sugarcane molasses at the Long Pond Distillery, where the molasses ferments for two weeks before being distilled in a traditional pot still. VRW refers to a classic marking used by the Jamaican distillery to identify its distillate.
Distilled in 2023, the rum was matured entirely under continental conditions in France. It spent two years and two months in Ferrand casks, then received a final eleven-month finish in a former Chardonnay wine barrel. After roughly three years of ageing in total, it is bottled at 43.8% ABV. Unlike many Caribbean rums, it has not undergone tropical cask ageing.
The Chardonnay finish adds influences from French wine casks to the recognisable Long Pond house style. The rum has no added sugar (a dosage of 0 g per litre) and an ester content of 152 g per hectolitre of pure alcohol, which preserves its distinctive character.
Planteray Rum, formerly known as Plantation Rum, belongs to the French spirits house Maison Ferrand and is guided by Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel, who is known for unusual cask combinations. This 0.7 l bottle comes in a giftbox, making it an intriguing choice for rum enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys unconventional cask maturation.
