This single grain Scotch whisky from the Scottish Lowlands has matured for an exceptionally long time. It was distilled at the North British Distillery in Edinburgh on 2 September 1991 and spent more than three decades in a single refill Oloroso sherry butt, cask #262086. Independent bottler Signatory Vintage bottled it on 28 January 2026 for its Cask Strength Collection, after 34 years in the cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 52.9% ABV, the whisky is neither coloured nor chill-filtered, which keeps the character of the cask largely intact. The long rest in a refill Oloroso butt gives pronounced cask influence, yet it does not fully hide the sweet, creamy grain character typical of an old grain whisky.
Only 442 bottles were filled from this single cask, so the release is limited. The North British Distillery was founded in Edinburgh in 1885 and is best known for grain whisky, a traditional foundation of many Scotch blends. Single-cask bottlings of decades-old grain whisky like this 1991/2026 release are far rarer. This 0.7-litre bottle comes in a tin box and will appeal to lovers of old grain whiskies.
