This limited-edition Barbados rum belongs to the Planteray Single Cask Collection 2026. It is made from sugar cane molasses at the historic Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery, where the molasses ferments for two to three days before being distilled in both pot and column stills.
Distilled in 2019, the rum first spent five years and six months maturing in Ferrand casks under continental conditions in France, with no earlier tropical cask ageing. It then received a 16-month finish in a former Sauternes wine cask, bringing the total cask maturation to around six years and ten months. The Sauternes casks, which previously held the famous sweet wine of the Bordeaux region, add further aromatic nuances to the long Ferrand cask ageing. The rum is dosed with just 2 g of sugar per litre.
Planteray Rum, formerly known as Plantation Rum, is part of the French spirits house Maison Ferrand and is known for its inventive barrel combinations under Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel. Bottled at 44.7% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle and presented in a giftbox, this edition pairs Caribbean rum tradition with French cask finishing, making it an intriguing choice for connoisseurs of cask-matured spirits.
