Stilbite is a tectosilicate mineral belonging to the Zeolite group . It is characterized by its unique monoclinic crystal system, often forming "wheatsheaf" or bowtie-shaped aggregates due to a phenomenon called twinning . It typically forms in the cavities (vesicles) of volcanic basalt or andesite. These formations are the result of low-grade metamorphism or hydrothermal activity, where mineral-rich, heated fluids circulated through prehistoric volcanic rock cooling millions of years ago. A defining physical trait of stilbite is its distinct pearly luster on its cleavage surfaces.
