This Armagnac from Gascony comes from a single harvest: 1987. Because it carries a specific vintage year, it is classified as an Armagnac Millésimé. That makes it different from standard cuvées, which combine eaux-de-vie from several years.
It was produced by the Delord house, a family-run producer. Its history goes back to 1893 and Prosper Delord, a travelling distiller. Across the generations since, the family has passed down its know-how in growing grapes, distilling and the long ageing of eaux-de-vie.
The spirit was matured slowly in oak casks over many years, and extended contact with the wood is said to add to its maturity and complexity. It is bottled at 40% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle.
Supplied in a wooden box, it makes a distinctive gift. It suits birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions linked to 1987, and offers a vintage-specific alternative to the usual spirits present.
